March 29, 2010 marks the day when we at Claiborne & Churchill went live with our new Point of Sale (P.O.S.) System, HOORAY! I, (Fredericka Churchill a.k.a "the Churchill half") founded the winery with my husband Clay ("the Claiborne half") in 1983. Since then...we have progressed from shoebox to cash register to better cash register and recently to our new P.O.S. system. Most remarkably, all of this progress has only taken 27 years!
The first few years (say 10 or so) Clay and I just kept a shoebox under the small tasting bar to collect any cash or checks which our customers and friends gave us in exchange for bottles of C&C wine. Next we made the leap to a simple, small cash register and we felt suddenly very "uptown" and legitimately a tasting room. Eventually, the need for a more sophisticated cash register (which we could program for our specific needs) was purchased from Nelson Office Equipment, and was sold back to them just the other day.
The new P.O.S. System is terrific, even for a low-tech person like myself. The young people working at C&C (especially Angela & Brook) have taken to the P.O.S. system very quickly. Fortunately for the rest of us, they are patient and willing to train us in its proper usage.
What does this all mean for you as a customer? Well, we now have two stations for you to make your purchases. We can recall your purchase history right there in the tasting room. Cellar Club Members don't even need to fish out their credit cards, we can simply charge your card on file.
